We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story…
In the summer of ’07 I went with my youth group and AIM to Guatemala. It was an amazing trip. Though I was not fully matured in my faith (if there is such a thing) it was a very good trip and I learned a lot. I came home wanting to go somewhere the following summer. It was going to be kind of an independent kind of thing. However those plans did not work out.
The events leading up the decision about going to Peru are kind of strange. My best friends father (our youth pastor) took a job in Atlanta. So it kind of put a strain on our friendship. Drew knew my plans though for going into missions and he knows how much I wanted to go on another trip. Especially when there is no certainty as to when that chance might arise again. So one Friday I wake up to my phone ringing. It was Drew. I answer saying hello and he responds back by saying “let’s go on a mission trip!” I jumped out of bed and we began to converse about it. He said he had been looking around on AIM’s site and that there was a trip to Peru, The Amazon Jungle that looked intriguing.
So I got on the computer and started looking and read some of the details of the trip and was so eagerly ready to go. We decided to pray about it over the weekend and see if it was something that God wanted us to do. So we did and I talked to him Sunday and we pretty much decided it was the right thing to do. I applied the very next day.
Here is why I felt led to go on this trip. I love God. I love what He has called us to do with our lives. To go and make disciples…. I love it and I want to live it out with my life. To be the light on the hill. To shine like a star in the universe. That is what I want to do with my life. I am so excited about going on this trip. I can’t wait for it. However God has a lot in store for me in the meant time. I am sure he has something big planned for you too.
That is my story about how I was called to go on this trip. The events that led up to it. And my passion for Missions.
